Birth and Postpartum Doula
APPAC, Certified Placenta Encapsulation Specialist
I am a native New Mexican and a mother of twins. Our family moved back to New Mexico in 2015 after spending over a decade in the Phoenix area. I graduated from ASU and became an Elementary School teacher. After the birth of our twins in 2013, we knew that we wanted to be closer to our family and friends. We are so grateful to be back in NM with the mountains, green chile and our family. I love to cook and really enjoy when I get the chance to cook for a new family.
My birth story was an experience for which I feel thankful and transformed. It was a long road to get there as we struggled with infertility for many years. We utilized science and optimism in order to make our dream of having a family come true. We were blessed with twins-a boy and a girl! My experience giving birth prompted my journey into the birth world. Birth is hard, messy and beautiful. It is my highest honor to walk beside a family during this journey.
As a former teacher, I am always learning. In 2016, I certified through Madriella as a birth doula. I have attended multiple trainings for postpartum work. In 2017, I became certified in birth and bereavement with StillBirthday. In 2018, I completed my APPAC and am a Certified Placenta Arts Specialist with the leading Placenta Arts training company, APPA. I have also taken classes in Ayurvedic postpartum cooking, acupressure and rebozo techniques. I am always looking to expand my knowledge to best serve my community.
Birth and the postpartum period is a transformation for the entire family. You will not come out of the experience the same person you were going in. I will be by your side through all of the happiness and hard times. I got into this work because I am a caretaker at heart. This care can take on all different forms depending on the family’s needs, varying between physical, emotional, or informational support. I pride myself at being able to assess my client’s needs and support them in the best way possible. I look forward to serving you and building a strong birth community.
From the moment Sarah became my Doula, she was there whenever I needed her. Calm. Confident. Simultaneously light yet grounding. She was the voice of reason. This was my first baby. Working through my pregnancy with Sarah was one of the best decisions my husband and I ever made together. From the first meeting, to the home visits, to the labor and to the birth itself, and in the weeks after, Sarah supported us in our dream – to have a positive birth experience and to assist us in making well-informed decisions surrounding the event. At the hospital, Sarah exceeded our expectations. The birth of our daughter was a long, drawn out affair with a climatic ending. Sarah has the endurance and stamina of a long- distance runner – she gave us her all for as long as we needed it. Our labor was prolonged, and, in the end, it was established that our baby had shoulder dystocia and emergency procedures were initiated to save her life. Sarah was our steady rock of Gibraltar through it all, supporting and sheltering us through that storm of delivery. What could have been a terrifying and traumatic experience became manageable because Sarah helped us adapt to the situation and move through it, with dignity. Because of the focus and attention Sarah bestowed upon us, my husband and I had an amazing birth experience, and for that, we are eternally grateful to her. Additionally, our gratitude was reinforced in our follow-up visit with our OBGYN when she shared with us that from the medical side, Sarah was the best doula she and her staff had ever had the good fortune of working with. Hearing such a compliment from a medical professional really punctuated what a skilled doula Sarah really is.
